Yoga
All about Yoga
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise with a focus on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost your physical and mental wellbeing. It consists of carrying out a series of set movements and focussing on your breathing. Whilst most forms of yoga are not strenuous enough to count towards your 150 minutes of moderate activity, as set out by government guidelines on exercise, yoga does count as a strengthening exercise, and at least 2 sessions a week will help you meet the guidelines on muscle-strengthening activities. Activities such as yoga and tai chi are also recommended for older adults at risk of falls, to help improve balance and co-ordination.
Where to do it
Many activities can be practiced at home or a local park, but there are also a number of venues across the region who provide classes, lessons, spaces to practice and opportunities to experience with other people. You can find a selection of these below. Make sure to get in touch with the provider to find sessions that suit your needs.
